The Gap Between Technical Metrics and Economic Value

Metrics like “steam per hour,” “kWh,” and “tons of CO₂ saved” are commonly used to track energy performance. However, their economic relevance is often overlooked. Translating technical data into financial terms is essential to gain buy-in from both management and machine operators.

Case Study: Unlocking Energy Savings

In a recent energy audit, we identified a potential reduction of 1 ton of steam per hour, representing nearly 3% of total steam consumption. This reduction translates into:

Significant cost savings for the paper mill

Many Projects Require a Strong Team to Succeed – Here’s What I Learned

During my recent experience with the commissioning and startup of a new paper machine at @Barem Ambalaj Ereğli/Konya, one key lesson stood out:
👉 Success is only possible through true teamwork.

Large-scale projects don’t just require investment and planning — they rely on the dedication, motivation, and collaboration of many individuals working toward a shared goal.

What truly inspired me was seeing how language and cultural differences became irrelevant when everyone was aligned, committed, and working with purpose.

Even without a common language, we communicated effectively through mutual respect, teamwork, and a shared drive to succeed. It was a powerful reminder that the strongest teams are built not just on technical skills, but on trust, unity, and collective effort.

I’m proud to have been a part of this incredible journey with the @Barem Ambalaj Ereğli/Konya team. This project was more than just a milestone — it was proof of what people can achieve when they come together with passion and purpose.

From the very first moment, it was clear that Barem Ambalaj is more than just a successful company—it is a true example of professionalism, innovation, and sustainability in action. The opportunity to engage in open and meaningful discussions with the leadership team was both insightful and inspiring.

Summary of the 51st International Annual Symposium DITP, Portorož, Slovenia

It was my pleasure to participate in the 51st International Annual Symposium DITP in Portorož, Slovenia. The event met all my expectations—from the excellent location and accommodation to the high-quality lectures and the presence of leading experts from the paper industry.

The symposium offered many interesting presentations that provided valuable insights into current developments in the field. Portorož’s pleasant atmosphere and good weather made the stay enjoyable and allowed for short visits around the town. The official evening dinner was well organized and provided a great opportunity for deeper discussions with participants. A major strength of the event was the mix of industrial and academic experts, which encouraged meaningful exchange of knowledge and experiences.

For future symposiums, I would like to offer two suggestions. First, I encourage even stronger cooperation between industry and academic institutions. Industry benefits greatly from academic knowledge and innovation, while academia depends on industry support and collaboration. More examples of joint projects and partnerships would be very welcome.

Second, extending the symposium to two days could create a more relaxed atmosphere, allow more time to visit company stands, and give participants a chance to explore the surroundings.

Overall, I would rate the symposium as excellent and would be glad to attend again. My sincere congratulations to the organizers and all participants.

Big Day for Barem Ambalaj!

Today marks a truly big day for Barem Ambalaj with the successful start-up of our very first paper machine. This is an important success not only for the company but for everyone who believed in this project from the very beginning.

I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the leadership team—the General Manager of Barem Ambalaj, Mr. Metin Kaya, Plant Manager Mr. Ethem Akova, and our brilliant Project Consultant Ahmet Taşci. Their vision, dedication, and unwavering belief made this achievement possible.

Every successful project is built on people who take a vision and turn it into reality. There are too many to mention individually, but I thank each one of them.

My own contribution was small, yet I had the privilege of witnessing the incredible effort, commitment, and perseverance of the team. I know it was not easy, and I truly admire all of them.

But the moment the paper finally comes onto the reel, all the challenges fade and happiness begin. I am grateful that I could stand beside this remarkable team and share in the joy of our success.

Enhancing Runability at the Paper Machine: ProRun Kick Off”

Let’s improve the runnability of boxes by minimizing the forces at the opening nip that affect the paper during its transition from the top to the bottom cylinder.

The specially designed “Kick Off” nozzle creates high-speed air between the cylinder and the tail, effectively reducing these forces and ensuring a smooth transfer of the tail onto the fabric.
